Weekend Workshops for Emerging Artists

Project Aperture is the first stage of artistic experience with FutureSelf. As the budding artists progress, demonstrating a commitment to themselves, teachers and other young artists, participants from Project Aperture are promoted to the Artisan Experiment. This advanced level provides a higher level of instruction and a higher level of expectation. Though they have grown they are still trying new things out to see what works for them- hence, the "experiment." We also offer Renaissance, a writing and music component to our workshops, as well. This program is open to all our young people who may be particularly intrigued by the written word and rhythm. Young people can self-refer, receive referrals from friends, therapists, teachers, etc. The first requirement is simply a desire to attend.

This core workshop program has an added community service requirement. Over the course of every year, each on-going participant will be required to give something back to their community, creatively. This can be anything the individual chooses, as long as it makes a positive impact and involves artistic expression.

FutureSelf On the Road focuses on outreach to young people who may have more extensive challenges to overcome to make a successful transition to adulthood. We will take our programs On the Road to provide the unique experiences FutureSelf opens up for young people who may be shut down or shut out. This program has a core staff of FutureSelf teaching artists who have specialized training to work with young people "in the struggle." This will create the foundation of mentoring relationships and positive outcomes so these young people will eventually have enough confidence to join our Weekend Workshops for Emerging Artists. Please contact our office for more information on a specialized program designed for your organization's needs.

We are in the early stages of developing a job-training/entrepreneurial program to bridge economic, racial and social divisions by providing disenfranchised youth with the tools to a thriving adulthood through paid employment in the arts. We are calling this program Vocation Innovation. More info to come on as it develops.
